Greetings, I’m Ardis, the founder and creative mind behind Fancy Some Drama Shop. My professional background in history and writing, coupled with an unwavering passion for period dramas, traces its roots to the captivating Kevin Sullivan adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. The laughter, tears, and timeless romance of characters like Anne and Gilbert Blythe ignited a fervor within me for all things period drama, with Gilbert becoming my enduring Mr. Darcy.
As my love for the genre deepened, I immersed myself in the original Anne of Green Gables, and there was no looking back. The inception of Fancy Some Drama Shop can be traced back to 2008, a time when I owned a historical costuming retail shop in Gettysburg. Despite my desire to expand into period drama items, the economic downturn forced the closure of numerous small businesses, mine included.
Fast forward to December 25, 2020, as I immersed myself in the debut season of Bridgerton on Netflix, inspiration struck anew. The resurgence of period dramas, evidenced by the popularity of shows like Outlander, Poldark, and Downton Abbey, rekindled the dream.
Since then, my resolve has grown to establish the only brick-and-mortar woman-owned shop exclusively dedicated to period drama. Fancy Some Drama Shop aims to be a sanctuary for like-minded individuals, fostering discussions on books, movies, and TV shows. A space where British expats and tourists can discover familiar comforts like foodstuffs and indulge in weekly high teas.
My vision is for this business to thrive, not only for my children but also as a positive contributor to the community. I aspire to forge connections, curate books tailored to your tastes, coordinate pre-orders for your favorite releases, organize distinctive events, and motivate you to lead a life rich with possibilities. I eagerly anticipate getting to know each of you and cultivating a vibrant community united by our shared love for period drama.
